The BACON Awards: Round 2

There are few things that bring unbridled joy to all. The BACON Awards fall in that category. Is it the promise of scrumptiousness? Is it the anticipation of that which can only be obtained by partaking in the crispy promise of BACON? The answer is: no. The reason why the BACON Awards are such a joyous occasion is because it gives the designers of Brandstack a chance to show off their skills and have a bit of fun while doing it. But you all already knew that. Out of holiday spirit, we decided to start the second round of BACON now and give designers the opportunity to get a head start on the competition over the holidays.

Blog_BACON_round_2

Just look at how festive that pig is up there. How could you not want to get in on that?

So, let’s get down to business. This time we’ve chosen to make the theme for our BACON Awards competition about typography. We want to see your best attempt at creatively/cleverly incorporating typography as the focus of a logo design. Starting today and lasting until January 5th, amass springs to become the supreme typography BACON champion. Submit as many designs as you’d like and let the BACON bits fall where they may.

If you participated in the last round of BACON, you already know the deal. For the rest of you, here are the details:

I. THE CONTEST: Typography
The BACON theme this time will be typography. Show us your very best attempt at creatively using type in a logo design. For a few examples and inspiration, see our recent blog post 50 Typography Logos with Letters (They’re Good, Too).

II. THE RULES

Upload your design just as if you are going to sell the design. The design must be new to Brandstack (not uploaded before December 22, 2009)
•Place the design in at least 2 categories: BACON and another. This is very important! As soon as the contest is over, all entries will be removed from the BACON category. They will remain in the other selected categories.
•Place the logo FOR SALE.
•Wait for approval. BACON logos will go through the same approval process as any other upload.
•Hunt for Springs! Tell your friends, tell your networks, tell your parents (especially your parents) to Spring your logo.
•The logo with the most Springs on 12:00 Noon CST January 5th wins!

III. NOTES

•We will remove all logos from the contest that are not BACON worthy.
•Designs will remain for sale on Brandstack at contest’s end (so everyone wins).

RECAP
Design a logo with creative use of typography using the BACON category. If your design gets the most springs in that category by 12:00 Noon CST January 5th, you win.

What else is there to say about BACON? We like it. You like it. Let’s do this thing. BACON!

50 Typography Logos With Letters (They’re Good, Too)

Typography has traditionally gone hand in hand with logo marks since the days of the dinosaurs. We know this because of that movie where they recreate dinosaurs on that island and then they get loose and go crazy and everyone dies. We’re sure that movie was called “The Dinosaurs That Got Loose and Ate Everyone” and you’ll never convince us otherwise.

The point is, typography can communicate things which marks themselves sometimes cannot. Either through manipulation of characters or double meanings of character shapes, the text of a logo might say something in addition to the meaning of the name. Or the style of font used might set the tone for the intended message. Often times, clever or attractive typography can stand alone as the logo mark.

Seller Beware

It’s come to our attention that there have been a number of recent scam attempts on Brandstack. Luckily, we caught them all, but we felt it would be a good idea to give you guys a heads up on what’s been going on so you can be aware and protect yourselves.

The scams tend to involve a potential buyer contacting a seller and offering to overpay for their design outside of Brandstack if the seller will agree to pay back some cash from the sale. This type of solicitation should raise a number of red flags. First of all, being asked to take a transaction outside of Brandstack removes the security of your transaction. Next, an offer of overpayment tends to mask an ulterior motive. In this case, it’s most likely a stolen credit card from which the scammer is attempting to extract cash before it gets canceled.

Luckily, the craftiness for the type of person who does this type of thing tends to run out there. In some cases, these scammers are taking the logos they fraudulently buy from the seller and attempt to reupload them to sell back to themselves through a fake account. At that point, it’s on us to catch them, but come on… We’re not dumb.

So, to prevent all this headache for you and us, here are some general tips for avoiding scams:

1. Never agree to a transaction outside of Brandstack
2. Be wary of unusual requests to rush a transaction
3. While sometimes buyers don’t buy for themselves, be aware if there’s a big disparity between a buyer’s profile and their contact info.

Beware!

We trust that most of you know a scam when you are faced with one, and if not we like to pride ourselves in protecting you guys. If any of you notice any suspicious activity you’re not sure about, please feel free to contact us at help@brandstack.com or on Live Chat to report your concerns.

New Promo Codes: Giving You More Price Control

Whoa now! We just came up with this great new idea for our designers. Yeah, you should like this one.

If you’ve been here longer than 5 minutes, you know that we give you a lot of control over your logos, specifically allowing you to set your own prices. Even though you can set your own prices, there are still a few situations where you want to offer special prices for specific logos or buyers. Enter: Promo Codes.

Now you have the ability to create your own promotional codes, which you can give out to your potential customers to discount prices on your logos and create a little bit of wiggle room on deals. These discounts can be either a percentage off of the original price or an exact dollar amount deduction. The promotional codes can also be set to be either applied to one specific logo or be applicable on any of your logos for sale. Adding further flexibility, your promo codes can work on designs already at the minimum price of $250 USD, dropping them below the minimum if you wish.
(Note: Before you drop logos below the minimum sales price, make sure you see how Brandstack’s commission will affect your price. Brandstack’s commission will be based on $250 minimum price, even if your price is lower. For example, if you sell a logo for $150, you will take home $112.50. So that there’s no confusion, we’ve created a Commission Calculator here. Create a promo code then go to the calculator to see exactly what your commission will be.)

How do you make promo codes? It’s quite simple, really.

Meet Tabitha Kristen – 42 and Counting

TabithaKristen

Tabitha Kristen is a talented young woman who has a passion for logo and brand creation. She is persistent, single-minded and determined which is very evident from her success on Brandstack. She not only creates great logos but also excels in marketing her designs and finding homes for her logos in a very crowded marketplace, a task which is definitely not easy. I have watched her since the day she started on Brandstack back in the Incspring days and still remember some of her earlier logos, I look at her now and am amazed with what focus and passion for something can do for a person. Tabitha has evolved and blossomed into a designer who understands exactly what is required and then delivers it without a hitch. Today, Tabitha takes some time out from a busy life and schedule to chat with us about how she started out and what is her secret for becoming the best-selling designer on Brandstack.

tk_logo1

We welcome you to the blog Tabitha, thanks for doing this interview.

1. Tell us something about yourself. Who is the real Tabitha Kristen? What have you studied and what is your work profile?
Well, I’m 27 years old, I’m engaged and I have three amazingly wonderful children. They provide much of my inspiration. Just the simple day to day life with them keeps my creative gears turning. I just recently moved from the upper peninsula of Michigan to the Dallas area. I love Texas. If you’re interested, a few of my favorite things (other than my family and logo design) are reading, art and music. Family is the most important thing in the world to me. My family and I are very close and we spend most of our time together. My mother, (Swede on Brandstack) is my best friend and my father, (a Navy veteran) is my hero. I believe it’s very inspiring to have a bond like that with your family.
