Yesterday we had the pleasure of walking Alan Weinkrantz, PR extraordinaire and Express News columnist, through our preparations leading into SXSW on Friday. He brought in some fantastic pizza (too kind, sir) and we gave him a little taste of what it’s like “living” in a start-up like we do. (For me, being in a start-up apparently means I need more sleep… those are some massive bags.) You’ll see some other friends in the video like Pear Analytics and MailFinch (if the name sounds familiar, he’s a fan of Brandstack too). Ignore the mess, we’re not normally that sloppy.
If you’re going to SXSW, feel free to stop by and say “hi”, grab a shirt, play some RockBank, record a video. Our friends and office mates at Pear Analytics will be at the booth next to us, so it’ll be a party! Can’t wait to meet you!

If you’ve followed this blog for longer than a few days, you’ll notice we don’t get around to sharing other site’s cool stuff. We should, admittedly, but we’re so busy keeping up with all the cool stuff on Brandstack and Upstack that it’s hard to share other stuff. This is an exception.
Ryan Kelly of Pear Analytics (numbers guru and exceptionally tall guy), sent this to me tonight because I’m interested in everything “logo”. Normally, his stuff gets thrown to the side (kidding Ryan), but not this one. If you haven’t seen it already, here’s Logorama. It’s a 15 animated short featuring over 2,500 well known logos. Not suprisingly, it’s been nominated for Best Short Film in this year’s Oscars.
You’ll probably need to watch it a few times to catch them all, but how can you not. I’ve always envisioned Ronald McDonald being a mass criminal but have never seen it. Now you can…
From the desk of Pablo Gallaga:
It would seem that I may have ruffled a few feathers by putting down the masterpiece film Pay It Forward. Here’s a bit of what went down yesterday after we posted this post:

At this time I would like to retract my criticism of said film. I apologize if I have offended anyone with my inability to appreciate Mimi Leder’s masterful direction and the nuance of Leslie Dixon’s adaptation of the Catherine Ryan Hyde classic.

It’s been an interesting week so far with our sweet suite mates Pear Analytics and Third Party Code off in New York attending SMX East.
We have the office all to ourselves and it’s been great! Without the surplus of bodies, the temperature of the office has stayed perfect, not too hot, not too cold. We’ve ordered out every day for food, no need to take a field trip for us to fill our bellies. Nope. Nu uh. And last but not least, we’ve gone and taken one treasured item from each Pear Analytics employee and dunked it in the murky depths of the most suitable men’s room toilet we could find on our floor. “Suitable” being a euphemism for dirty. We can’t wait until you guys get back. We miss you. We want to kiss you.

Approaching a month’s time, both men found themselves alone and hairy. They ran to each other for comfort only to remember they were sworn enemies. And in a cruel, dry breeze that bristled their very faces, they were reminded of why.
So, yes, it has been three weeks since Graham of Pear Analytics and I agreed to have a beard-off. Need I remind you why? Because beard-offs are fun. That’s why. What’s at stake? Our physical appearance. Oh. You mean what’s at stake if we lose? Nothing, really. Pride? Pride can be mistaken for nothing sometimes.
Here are some photographs so you can judge the progress:

It was decided between Graham of Pear Analytics and myself that we will be having a beard-off.
What’s a beard-off? It’s only the best thing ever. We realized in the office that the both of us are quite formidable facial hair growers, as evidenced by Graham’s Twitter avatar and by my affinity for the film Teen Wolf.
On August 6th, there was a shave restriction put into effect. We will now see who can grow the fullest beard the fastest. Luckily, we had both happened to shave that morning around our goatees so we have a fair start. The winner will get all the free hair they could ever want. The loser will be ground up into a fine paste and fed to himself. Yeah, we haven’t quite worked out all the logistics yet, but when we do… paste!
Most people think growing a beard is really simple. It takes a lot of hard work and dedication. There’s a lot of blood and sweat involved — sometimes tears. We’re going to be pushing our bodies to the limits all for your amusement.
The original plan was to have a BEAR-off, on account of the economy. That extra letter was going to really cost us, but we’re all free spirits here, so we let our hair down and went for it. I’m excited. We’ll keep you posted on how it’s going here and on Twitter (also through #beardoff).
Let the best man win.

Beard-Off: Minute 1, Day 1
“I need to start winning some tennis games so I can get some respect around here.” -Wes Wilson
The Wii Sports tennis matches have hit a fever pitch in the Brandstack office. Wait, let me try that again. The Wii Sports tennis matches have hit a fever serve in the Brandstack office. I’m so clever. What we’ve learned is that if you don’t bring it on the court, you lose all clout in the office. Wes learned this the hard way today when he dropped a couple matches to Pear Analytics’ Ryan Kelly and our very own Robert McGuire.

So we moved into our new office space early last week and while I’ve tweeted little tidbits about the space, I’ve hesitated to show pictures since we’re not quite finished. Enough people have asked to see the new digs, so here’s a peek. We just added some paint to the walls, a combo of blue, green and red. There’s definitely a hint of RGB in the air. We’re looking for some cool art and need to add the corporate signage (I think that’s mandatory, right?!?)

I took this photo without notice, from my desk... as you can tell by the picture, Robert is really excited to be with us! Ha!
